Jesus died for our sins, and He rose from the dead that we might live since we have been forgiven of our sins. However, witnesses to His resurrection were needed that we all might believe what God did through Jesus. Therefore, Mark records,

After that, He appeared in another form to two of them as they walked and went into the country (Mark 16.12).

Luke 24 fills in the details. We know that Jesus joined two men as they walked and talked about the recent events in Jerusalem, namely, the things that happened to Jesus of Nazareth. Then Jesus Himself joined their walk, but He appeared in a form in which they did not recognize Him. Later, scales dropped from their eyes, and they could see that they had been talking with Jesus.

This shows that they did not plan or concoct the event, but truly Jesus had risen from the dead and appeared to these men, proving that Jesus is the Son of God.
