The last third of the life of Moses he spent on behalf of Israel. From the time he was eighty years old until his death at the age of one hundred twenty, his life was all about Israel. Then just before he died, the Lord revealed to Moses this sad glimpse of the future of Israel,
And the Lord said to Moses:
“Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them” (Deuteronomy 31.16).
Moses could have thought that his life had been in vain, yet, he also knew that the Lord had a plan, and that someday the Lord would raise up a prophet like Moses. Therefore, he also knew that there would be good in Israel’s future, nevertheless, it must have been hard to hear the words quoted above.
You may give your all for some people, and you might even think it in vain, yet, who knows but the Lord Himself, how things shall turn out?
