Jesus sent His disciples on what we call the limited commission, because they only went through Israel, not the world. During this short tour, He wanted them to tell people, whether they accepted the preaching of the disciples or not, that the Kingdom of God had come near them,
“And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you’” (Luke 10.9–11).
For those places where the people brought their sick to the disciples for healing, the disciples would announce that the Kingdom of God had come near them. For those places where the people did not receive the disciples, the disciples still had to announce that the Kingdom of God had come near them.
Do you know that the Kingdom of God was set up in the first century, and that it continues to this day?
