Frequently, preachers use passages such as Luke 21 to prophesy of Jerusalem today and of the Lord’s return, but while Jesus did prophesy of the destruction of Jerusalem, the apostles asked Him when it would happen and what would be the sign of the destruction. In part of His answer, He said,

Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake” (Luke 21.10–12).

Listen to the Lord. He warned the apostles of these things, warning that they would experience these things, and that the destruction of Jerusalem would then happen. Sure enough, it did in AD 70 when Rome attacked Jerusalem and obliterated it.
