To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 21.20–38 on April 28, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
When Jesus died, He nailed the Law of Moses to the cross, but everything on Earth continued as it had for centuries; the priests continued making their sacrifices and so on. Therefore, the Lord had to put an end to it once and for all. This He did with the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. After prophesying plainly of Jerusalem’s demise, He prophesied further,
“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Luke 21.25–26).
The destruction of Jerusalem and its temple was no small matter, for the activities of heaven had surrounded the city for centuries. When that destruction happened, it was the shaking up of the powers of the heavens.
