05.02.2014 New Testament: Luke 23.11–12
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 23.1–26 on May 2, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Because Pilate did not know what to do with Jesus, the governor sent Jesus to Herod, who had been Pilate’s enemy. However, on that day they became friends,
Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other (Luke 23.11–12).
It is good to be friendly. It is good to make new friends. However, something was wrong with this friendship. We do not know why these two men had been at enmity, but after dealing with Jesus, and after Herod allowed his men of war to treat Jesus contemptuously and mockingly, Herod and Pilate became friends.
It is better to lose friends when we follow Christ, rather than to have unity with the enemies of Christ. If you follow Jesus, you will lose some friends, and you will make new ones.
And God knew they would do all this before it happened and He still wanted to send His Son to save us! Thank You God!
“For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together “to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. (Acts 4:27, 28, NKJV).
