05.12.2014 Old Testament: 2Ki 4.24–26
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Kings 4–5 on May 12, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The son of a woman, whom Elisha had helped, died, and she went to the prophet quickly, in the hope that he might be able to do something. Notice what she said when asked if everything was well,
Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.” And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman! Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’” And she answered, “It is well” (2 Kings 4.24–26).
She answered that everyone was well, including her son, although he had just died. She knew that the Lord was with Elisha, and that he had done mighty miracles; perhaps he would raise her son from the dead. Therefore, she did not so much answer for how things were, but for how they were about to be!
Never thought about that section of scripture that way. Neat thought…and worthy of “borrowing” 🙂
