Is the devil your father?

05.23.2014 New Testament: John 8.44

To read the Bible in a year, read John 8.37–59 on May 23, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Jesus spoke to Jews who believed Him, that if they continued in His word, they would be His disciples and they would know the truth and that truth would set them free. They argued with Him on whether they were in bondage. They argued with Him enough that He eventually said,

“You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it” (John 8.44).

Do not argue with the Lord. Do not dispute His word. If you do, you will so distance yourself from Him, that He will declare that the devil is your father, because you want to believe a lie, and the devil is the father of lies.
