The Pharisees saw themselves as experts in the Law, yet, when the Author of the Law walked among them, they did not recognize Him. Sometimes the experts get so bogged down in details that they fail to see the greater picture.

Jesus healed a man who had been blind, but the Pharisees questioned the man, because Jesus did the healing on the Sabbath. They claimed to know Moses, but said they did not know Jesus, and this conversation took place,

“Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.” They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out (John 9.32–34).

They could not reason with this simple and common man, because he spoke the truth, but they did not know the truth and did not want to know it. How could they argue with what he said? Rather than answer him, they simply put him down and challenged whether he was qualified to teach them.
