If we confess our sin, but blame someone else, have we truly confessed? No, we have spoken a few words, trying to satisfy God, but in our hearts, we believe someone else bears the blame for our sin.
When David numbered Israel to find out how strong he was militarily, he realized that he had failed to trust in the Lord,
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore He struck Israel. So David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing; but now, I pray, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly” (1 Chronicles 21.7–8).
David confessed that he had sinned, and did not blame it on anyone else. He knew that he bore full responsibility, and he did not attempt to deflect the guilt, for God would not be fooled anyway.
