05.29.2014 New Testament: John 11.33–35
To read the Bible in a year, read John 11.18–46 on May 29, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Jesus loved Martha and Mary, and their brother Lazarus, who had died. As Mary led Jesus to the tomb of Lazarus, she and the Jews with her wept, and that touched the heart of Jesus,
Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. And He said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” Jesus wept (John 11.33–35).
Jesus loved people, that is why He came to Earth, but He also had special friends, and to see them hurt, grieved His heart. Does it touch you to see your loved ones hurt? When you hurt, it touches the heart of Jesus.
“Everyone” wants to know, “Why did Jesus weep?” Considering his humanity, perhaps a better question would be, “Why wouldn’t he have wept?”
I’ll be in John 11 with my preaching series eventually. Looking forward to reading your posts.
