06.14.2014 New Testament: John 21.15
To read the Bible in a year, read John 21 on June 14, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Peter had denied knowing the Lord three times, but the Lord gave Peter three opportunities to declare his love for Jesus, beginning with these words,
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs” (John 21.15).
By “these” did Jesus mean the food Peter had just consumed, or the other apostles? Whatever it was, the Lord asked a penetrating question. Simon, do you love Jesus? To what extent do you love Him?
If Jesus asked you that question, what would you say? Would you say, Yes, because you believe that is what He wants to hear, or would you mean it sincerely?
