Sometimes you just have to wait

06.15.2014 New Testament: Acts 1.12–14

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 1 on June 15, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

After the disciples lost hope with the crucifixion of Jesus, they had it revived again when they saw Him raised from the dead. He stayed with them for forty days. Then He ascended into heaven. They had no idea how they would soon change the world for all time. However, before that happened, Jesus had told them to go back to Jerusalem and to wait,

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers (Acts 1.12–14).

They did what Jesus told them to do. However, they could not do everything. Therefore, they needed power from above, and they could not just go get it, but the Lord had to give it according to His timing.

Do what you can do, but wait on the Lord, because He is running the show anyway.
