06.18.2014 Old Testament: Neh 7.65
To read the Bible in a year, read Nehemiah 7–8 on June 18, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The Jews through Nehemiah’s leadership rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem. Then they had to start populating the city and restoring the full services of the temple. However, somethings could not happen until they had all the necessary tools,
And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim (Nehemiah 7.65).
Somehow the Lord communicated with the priests through the Urim and Thummim, stones that went inside the ephod that the high priest wore. We do not know exactly what these things were, nor how the Lord used them, but they were obviously necessary for the work of the priests.
The priests in this case could not eat the most holy things, until the priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim, that is consult the Lord through these items.
Friends, it is likewise important that we seek the full knowledge of God as revealed in Scripture, that we might know what He desires of us.
