Making an earnest plea to God

Job

06.28.2014 Old Testament: Job 13.20–22

To read the Bible in a year, read Job 13–15 on June 28, In the year of our Lord 2014

As Job debated with his three friends, he also spoke to God frequently, making requests mostly for death, but also asking God to reveal why he was suffering. Consider this plea from Job,

“Only two things do not do to me,
Then I will not hide myself from You:
Withdraw Your hand far from me,
And let not the dread of You make me afraid.
Then call, and I will answer;
Or let me speak, then You respond to me.”
(Job 13.20–22)

Job so desperately wanted to hear from God, and in this passage Job presented God with two requests: First, that God would withdraw His hand that Job believed was causing his suffering, and second, that God would not make Job afraid.

Keep reading The Book of Job and you will discover how God responded to Job’s request. Use this text to launch you into your own conversation with God, and know that He hears you all the way.
