A special appearance for a devoted man

Acts Wide

06.29.2014 New Testament: Acts 9.7–9

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 9.1–22 on June 29, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

As Saul of Tarsus set out to persecute more followers of Jesus Christ, the Lord Jesus Himself appeared to Saul (later known as Paul), but those traveling with him did not have a similar experience,

And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one. Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank (Acts 9.7–9).

The men heard the voice of Jesus, but they could not see Him, because this appearance was not for them. Saul was to become an apostle, and as an apostle he had to have seen the risen Christ.

Saul’s traveling companions led him to Damascus, where he had planned on persecuting followers of the Way, but he went there to wait, for that is what the Lord told him to do. You can see Saul’s devotion as he waited as a blind man, and he did not eat or drink, because of his total focus on what had happened to him. He had seen Jesus. And the world has never been the same since.
