Praying as others approach for help

Acts Wide

07.01.2014 New Testament: Acts 10.9

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 10.1–23 on July 1, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Peter did not know it, but the Lord was working to change him and to change the church. First, the Lord sent an angel to a Gentile named Cornelius, and he was to send messengers to Joppa to retrieve Peter that he might speak the message of salvation to the family and friends of Cornelius. Luke wrote,

The next day, as they [the messengers of Cornelius, DR] went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour (Acts 10.9).

Peter went to a private place to pray, and shortly he would become hungry, then the Lord would use that to change the heart of this bold, but inflexible apostle and preacher. Those messengers would soon arrive after Peter had an interesting experience while praying.

You pray. You read the Bible. The Lord works in your life. He will use you, but you need to be ready to be used as He desires, not as you desire.
