07.08.2014 Old Testament: Job 38.12–15
To read the Bible in a year, read Job 38–39 on July 8, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Job thought he knew how things should be run. Therefore, when God appeared on the scene, He asked Job some questions that showed he did not know what he was saying. For example, God said to Job,
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began,
And caused the dawn to know its place,
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth,
And the wicked be shaken out of it?
It takes on form like clay under a seal,
And stands out like a garment.
From the wicked their light is withheld,
And the upraised arm is broken.”
(Job 38.12–15)
Job, how many mornings have you commanded to come into existence? Well, Job would have had to answer, None. Even if he had wanted to command a morning, could he have done it? No, of course not, because only the Creator can do such things. Therefore, whatever the Creator did in Job’s life, He had a purpose for it, and knew what He was doing.
How about you? Have you commanded the morning? If not, have you criticized God? If so, did you have a right to do so?
