The honesty of preachers led to the conversion of a lost soul

Acts Wide

07.11.2014 New Testament: Acts 16.28–30

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 16.16–40 on July 11, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Romans put Paul and Silas in prison, but that did not stop the spiritual quest of these two mighty preachers of God’s word. Therefore, at midnight, they sang and prayed. Suddenly there was an earthquake, and it loosened all the chains on the prisoners, and opened the doors on all the cells.

Believing that the prisoners would have escaped, the jailer in charge prepared to take his life, rather than facing execution from his superiors for allowing prisoners to escape. However, this happened,

But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16.28–30).

Rather than running for their lives, Paul and Silas saw an opportunity to save a lost soul. Truly, this man saw an opportunity to save his own soul, and so we have the unusual picture of a Roman soldier asking Jewish preachers how to be saved!

Are you saved from the wrath that is coming?
