07.27.2014 Old Testament: Psa 51.1–2

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 50–52 on July 27, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Imagine that you killed someone, or had someone killed after committing adultery with that person’s spouse. Then God sends a prophet to you, revealing that He saw the whole thing. The sword of guilt would slice you in half. Then you might pray as David did,

Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
(Psalm 51.1–2)

You may not have sinned as David did, but you have sinned, and you and I are just as much in need of mercy, as was this man of God.
