08.07.2014 Old Testament: Psa 79.9–10
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 79–81 on August 7, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
How do you view religion? Let us see it as Asaph did,
Help us, O God of our salvation,
For the glory of Your name;
And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
For Your name’s sake!
Why should the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
Let there be known among the nations in our sight
The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.
(Psalm 79.9–10).
Children of God suffered, and by Asaph they cried out for help, but not so much for themselves, rather they wanted the help because they were God’s people, and if they suffered defeat, it would reflect poorly on God’s name.
Therefore, they cried out for help for themselves that God’s reputation might be exalted.
