To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 11.1–21 on August 11, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Jesus taught that if we seek, we shall find (Matthew 7.7ff), but sometimes we seek the right thing in the wrong way, and so we do not find what we seek. Paul said of the problem of Jewish unbelief,
What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded (Romans 11.7).
The Jews sought the things of God through self-righteousness, but the elect, and by that Paul in this context means the Gentiles who believe, did obtain the things of God although they did not seek them.
They obtained them because they did not have the problem of self-righteousness.
When you search the Scriptures, also search yourself to see whether you seek self-righteousness or God’s righteousness.
