You may last as long as a flower, but the Lord’s mercy lasts forever!

Psalms Bible Background

08.15.2014 Old Testament: Psa 103.15–18

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 103–104 on August 15, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

We last about as long as the grass does, or the flower, but the Lord has something for us that never ends,

As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
(Psalm 103.15–18)

As middle age begins to show up in my rearview mirror, and old age I see out the windshield, I agree with David that my days pass like grass, and that my flesh flourish only as long as the flower, but it delights my soul to know that the Lord’s mercies to me never end, because I need them endlessly.
