Do your feet hurt?

Psalms Bible Background

08.16.2014 Old Testament: Psa 105.16–22

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 105–106 on August 16, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

As the psalmist recalled the history of Israel, and that the Lord sent Joseph ahead of the family, the psalmist noted the experiences of Joseph in Egypt,

Moreover He called for a famine in the land;
He destroyed all the provision of bread.
He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who was sold as a slave.
They hurt his feet with fetters,
He was laid in irons.
Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the Lord tested him.
The king sent and released him,
The ruler of the people let him go free.
He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his possessions,
To bind his princes at his pleasure,
And teach his elders wisdom.
(Psalm 105.16–22)

Joseph suffered, and the psalmist showed us Joseph’s feet in particular, because he was bound by metal. What does it feel like to have irons on your feet?

However, his suffering turned into royalty, because the king of Egypt made Joseph ruler of the people of Egypt, and had him teach the elders of Egypt wisdom!

Do your feet hurt? That is, are you suffering? Remain faithful to the Lord, He may yet use you to benefit someone you love.
