09.21.2014 Old Testament: Song 1.12–14
To read the Bible in a year, read Song of Solomon 1–3 on September 21, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
How shall we picture love? What is the aroma of love? Picture what the Shulamite said to Solomon, and then imagine what the aroma would have been like,
While the king is at his table,
My spikenard sends forth its fragrance.
A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me,
That lies all night between my breasts.
My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blooms
In the vineyards of En Gedi.
(Song of Solomon 1.12–14)
Spikenard came from India, hence it was valuable. She wore the best for him, because she knew of his love for her.
What would a bundle of myrrh lying on your chest all night be like? The aroma would be pleasant and delightful, and so was he to her.
He was also like a cluster of henna blooms to her, something very delightful.
Let us learn to see our spouses as gifts from God, even as we see nature as a gift from God, and then we shall view one another as Solomon and the Shulamite did one another.
