09.25.2014 Old Testament: Isa 5.5–7
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 4–6 on September 25, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The Lord spoke a parable through Isaiah the prophet, saying that He had made a vineyard, and done everything necessary to have fruit. However, when the Lord came to His vineyard, it had wild grapes that were not any good. Therefore, He told Israel,
“And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard:
I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned;
And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down.
I will lay it waste;
It shall not be pruned or dug,
But there shall come up briers and thorns.
I will also command the clouds
That they rain no rain on it.”
For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel,
And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant.
He looked for justice, but behold, oppression;
For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.
(Isaiah 5.5–7)
He would remove the vineyard’s protection, He would not take care of it, and He would not water it.
Then He revealed what the vineyard represented, and what the wild grapes were. The vineyard was Israel and Judah, and the wild grapes were oppression and unrighteousness.
The Lord cannot ignore His people when they ignore His call for righteousness. Truly, they will suffer for their neglect.
