09.30.2014 Old Testament: Isa 19.11–15
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 19–21 on September 30, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
Egypt put her trust in her advisers, but those advisers failed, consequently Egypt failed. The Lord worked to humble the Egyptians that they might see the error of their ways,
Surely the princes of Zoan are fools;
Pharaoh’s wise counselors give foolish counsel.
How do you say to Pharaoh, “I am the son of the wise,
The son of ancient kings?”
Where are they?
Where are your wise men?
Let them tell you now,
And let them know what the Lord of hosts has purposed against Egypt.
The princes of Zoan have become fools;
The princes of Noph are deceived;
They have also deluded Egypt,
Those who are the mainstay of its tribes.
The Lord has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst;
And they have caused Egypt to err in all her work,
As a drunken man staggers in his vomit.
Neither will there be any work for Egypt,
Which the head or tail,
Palm branch or bulrush, may do.
(Isaiah 19.11–15)
The glory of Egypt had been magnificent at one time, but the nation failed to honor God and trusted in idolatrous counselors. Therefore, the Lord asked them where her wise men were. They failed even as their advice failed.
