Jesus is our peace

Ephesians Bible Background

09.30.2014 New Testament: Eph 2.14–16

To read the Bible in a year, read Ephesians 2 on September 30, In the year of our Lord 2014

Although we are all family in Adam, we have divided. The division has been so great, that we hate one another and do not want to have anything to do with large segments of people. However, Jesus changes all that, showing us the way of peace,

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity (Ephesians 2.14–16).

The Law of Moses like a wall separated Israel from the rest of the world, but Jesus broke that wall down, making it possible for all people to come together in His body, the church. This He did while nailed to the cross. Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sins, but He also died to make peace between warring peoples.
