From ease of life to troubled of spirit

Isaiah Bible Background

10.05.2014 Old Testament: Isa 32.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 31–33 on October 5, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

There is a time to rest and be at ease, and there is a time to get up and work, and to do something about the conditions around us. Therefore, the Lord spoke to the women at ease,

Rise up, you women who are at ease,
Hear my voice;
You complacent daughters,
Give ear to my speech.
In a year and some days
You will be troubled, you complacent women;
For the vintage will fail,
The gathering will not come.
Tremble, you women who are at ease;
Be troubled, you complacent ones;
Strip yourselves, make yourselves bare,
And gird sackcloth on your waists.
(Isaiah 32.9–11)

They did not care for others around them, but only wanted to satisfy themselves and enjoy the good life. However, the Lord revealed to them that the time would come when they could no longer enjoy such a life, because of their evil.

Let us fill our lives with good works, and the Lord shall bless us with what we need, and give us a good life to enjoy.
