We say that it is the gift that counts when we give a gift, and that is true. We can think of helping someone or doing good for him, but we do not always have the opportunity, and for that Paul wrote,

But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity (Philippians 4.10). 

If you want to help someone, let him know, even if you lack the opportunity. Your thought alone will go a long ways toward blessing that person’s life.
