The Lord blessed Jerusalem, but the city did not return the favor

Jeremiah Bible Background

10.20.2014 Old Testament: Jer 3.19–20

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 3–4 on October 20, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

The Lord never sought the harm of His people, for if He had, He never would have had them in the first place, and once He had them, He would have eliminated them the first time they departed from Him. Therefore, He said to Jerusalem,

“But I said:
‘How can I put you among the children
And give you a pleasant land,
A beautiful heritage of the hosts of nations?’
“And I said:
‘You shall call Me, “My Father,”
And not turn away from Me.’
Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband,
So have you dealt treacherously with Me,
O house of Israel,” says the Lord.
(Jeremiah 3.19–20)

Think of the exceedingly rich blessings we have in Christ Jesus. Have we in turn blessed Him with all our might?
