Egypt delivered, then restored

Jeremiah Bible Background

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 46–48 on November 7, In the year of our Lord 2014

Egypt worshiped false and dead gods. Therefore, it would not prevail against the Babylonians, who by-the-way had their own problems. However, for the moment, the Lord would allow Babylon to prevail over Egypt, and then He would restore Egypt,

The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I will bring punishment on Amon of No, and Pharaoh and Egypt, with their gods and their kings—Pharaoh and those who trust in him. And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of his servants. Afterward it shall be inhabited as in the days of old,” says the Lord (Jeremiah 46.25–26).

It happened just as the Lord said it would. Babylon defeated Egypt, but Egypt now resides in its land again, but Babylon is no more.

The Lord demands righteousness from the nations, and when He does not see it, He makes them pay a heavy price.
