11.07.2014 New Testament: Heb 4.12–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 4 on November 7, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The writer of the Book of Hebrews warned us against failing to listen with faith to the word of God, for when the Israelites failed to have faith and obedience, God struck them down in the wilderness and they did not enter His rest in the Land of Canaan. The writer encouraged us to give diligence to enter the rest promised for us in heaven, lest we fall after the example of the Israelites. Then he said,
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4.12–13).
Even as the word of God can distinguish between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, so His word can discern the very thoughts and intentions that we have in our hearts. How is that possible? The writer said that no creature can hide from His sight, but everything is as though it is naked before Him, and He sees all.
