In America, we commonly tell someone to say, Hi, to the rest of their family or some other associates. Perhaps we started this tradition because of the Bible. Whether we did or not, it is a good one and we should continue it, as you see Peter doing it here,

She who is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you; and so does Mark my son (1 Peter 5.13).

Let us never forget the human connection. Without people in our lives, even people in other locations, our lives would not be as rich as they are. Therefore, if someone says for you to send their greetings to your family or whoever, do it.
