The day of the Lord is a day of gloominess

Many people see the day of the Lord as a good day, and while that is true, if a person is not walking in the light as Jesus is in the light, then the day of the Lord is the darkest day of history, even as the Lord spoke to Israel of a day in which He would visit them in judgment,

Blow the trumpet in Zion,
And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For the day of the Lord is coming,
For it is at hand:
A day of darkness and gloominess,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
Like the morning clouds spread over the mountains.
A people come, great and strong,
The like of whom has never been;
Nor will there ever be any such after them,
Even for many successive generations.
(Joel 2.1–2)

The Lord would send a massive army against Israel, and they would experience judgment at the hands of a foreign power, even as the Canaanites experienced the awesome power of the Lord through Israel.
