The Lord did not forget Bethlehem

Micah Bible Background

12.20.2014 Old Testament: Mic 5.2

To read the Bible in a year, read Micah 4–5 on December 20, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

The enemy struck the cheek of Israel with a rod, but the Lord remembered His people, even small, seemingly insignificant places like Bethlehem,

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”
(Micah 5.2)

To show just how much He would remember such a little town, the Lord Himself would enter the world in Bethlehem through the womb of a woman, just as we enter the world!

Of all the mighty cities the Lord could have chosen for His birth, such as Jerusalem not too far away, He chose Bethlehem. If He had never been born there, we would probably hardly notice its existence. The Lord works in beautiful ways!
