That would have been encouraging

Zechariah Bible Background

12.28.2014 Old Testament: Zec 8.3

To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 7–9 on December 28, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

The Lord sent the prophets Haggai and Zechariah to encourage the people to work on rebuilding the temple. And they succeeded. I can see why, after reading the following prophecy,

“Thus says the Lord:
‘I will return to Zion,
And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth,
The Mountain of the Lord of hosts,
The Holy Mountain.’”
(Zechariah 8.3)

If I was a Jew living then, and I heard that message, I would get busy working on the Lord’s temple! What more encouraging word could the Lord have spoken through the prophet?

Has not the Lord Jesus Christ promised to dwell with us always? What does that do to you?
