Jesus lived among the Gentiles

Matthew Bible Background

01.04.2015 New Testament: Matt 4.12–16

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 4 on January 4, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

John the Baptist preached boldly and for it, Herod put John in prison. News of John’s imprisonment sent Jesus into Galilee,

Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles:
The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,
And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned.”
(Matthew 4.12–16)

What more could the Lord of heaven and Earth show that He was not only for the Jews, but also for the Gentiles. Living among them showed His total acceptance of them, or at least his willingness to accept them.

They may have sat in the spiritual dark, but then the light itself came and lived among them. Does He live in your heart?
