As young men, Esau and Jacob had problems. Jacob deceived his father Isaac into believing that Jacob was Esau (Isaac could hardly see because of his age). The Bible says,

[Isaac] said, “Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s game, so that my soul may bless you.” So he brought it near to him, and he ate; and he brought him wine, and he drank. Then his father Isaac said to him, “Come near now and kiss me, my son” (Genesis 27.25–26).

Jacob, disguised as Esau, did as his father instructed, and then Isaac blessed Jacob. Thus, Isaac thought that he received Esau, but truly Isaac received Jacob. This enraged Esau, who plotted to kill his brother, but Jacob escaped, and things changed greatly between them twenty years later when they saw one another again.
