The end would come when the gospel was preached

Matthew Bible Background

02.06.2015 New Testament: Matt 24.14

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 24.1–22 on February 6, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

The disciples asked Jesus three questions: When would the destruction of Jerusalem happen? What would be the sign of His coming? What would be the sign of the end of the age? Part of his answer to the first question included this,

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24.14).

About 40 years later, the gospel had been preached throughout the world and so the Lord sent the Roman armies against Jerusalem, and they destroyed it, including the temple.

Jerusalem rejected the good news, but much of the rest of the world accepted it. Now, many in that part of the world surrounding Israel, have turned to Islam. May they wake up before something horrible happens to them, even as it did to Israel, Jerusalem, and the temple.
