Surprises in the Judgment

Matthew Bible Background

02.09.2015 New Testament: Matt 25.44

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 25.31–46 on February 9, In the year of our Lord 2015

Some will stand before Jesus on the Day of Judgment and be surprised by what they hear, as He condemns them for having ignored Him,

“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’” (Matthew 25.44).

They thought to themselves that if they had seen Jesus during their lives on Earth, and if He had been in need, they never would have ignored Him, but they did not understand in what way they had ignored Him. If we neglect a brother or sister in need, then we have ignored Him, because He lives in that brother or sister, and if He was on Earth, He would not appear to differ from them.
