02.11.2015 New Testament: Matt 26.30
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 26.20–54 on February 11, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
After Jesus told His disciples how He wanted them to remember Him and His death, which would happen the next day, the Bible says,
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives (Matthew 26.30).
What did the singing voice of Jesus sound like? What did it sound like on this occasion? What was the hymn? Think of this: Jesus knew that in a very short time, the Jews would arrest Him, slap and beat Him, turn Him over to the Romans, and suffer the brutality of a crucifixion. Yet, He sang a hymn just before all of that happened, and He knew what was going to happen.

Well said, and a neat question.
You’ve probably heard some suggest, but just in case you haven’t, there’s a good possibility that Jesus sang one of the Hallel psalms (Psalm 113-118) because of their content and the obvious nearness of the feast of Passover.

Right, and thanks for the information, Eugene.

Always has been an intriguing verse. Jesus followed through on the traditional observance of the Passover. I suspect he may have found solace in that affirming practice that he had followed all his earthly existence, as he faced betrayal and suffering.

Right, and knowing how He was the true Passover, and what it would mean for us, I am sure got Him through the awful approaching ordeal He would face.
