02.12.2015 New Testament: Matt 26.57–58
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 26.55–75 on February 12, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
A night of incredible horror had just begun when men sat to judge God, the creature judging its Creator,
And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. But Peter followed Him at a distance to the high priest’s courtyard. And he went in and sat with the servants to see the end (Matthew 26.57–58).
Jesus stood before men of hate, except Peter did not hate Jesus, but Peter wanted to see the outcome of what these men would decide and do about Jesus. What did Peter plan on doing afterwards? I doubt that he thought of that, but he wanted to be there, although at a distance. Why do people want to be close to Jesus, but not too close?
