Do you want a taker of life or the giver of life?

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 27.32–66 on February 13, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

The Romans had a tradition with the Jews of releasing whatever prisoner they wanted released. Therefore, at the trial of Jesus, Pilate offered to let Jesus go, as part of that custom,

Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to releasing to the multitude one prisoner whom they wished. And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called Barabbas. Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?” (Matthew 27.15–17).

The Bible reveals elsewhere that Barabbas had committed murder in a rebellion, and that he was a robber. The Jews, holy men supposedly, wanted Barabbas released instead of Jesus.

Barabbas took life; Jesus gave life. Whom would you choose?
