Honor the God who brought you out of bondage

Leviticus Bible Background

02.16.2015 Old Testament: Lev 22.31–33

To read the Bible in a year, read Leviticus 22–23 on February 16, In the year of our Lord 2015

Why did the Lord God command the children of Israel to keep His commandments and why should they never profane His name? He explained it to them,

“Therefore you shall keep My commandments, and perform them: I am the Lord. You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel. I am the Lord who sanctifies you, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 22.31–33).

For four centuries the children of Israel had to stay in the land of Egypt, and a major part of that time, they spent as slaves. Then the Lord freed them! He gave them hope. They were finally out of the land of bondage, headed for their own land. Of course, they should obey and not profane His name.

Likewise, every Christian has been freed from the bondage of sin. We all know the particular things from which the Lord delivered us. Should we not also obey Him and keep His name holy?
