Asking the Lord relentlessly

Matthew Bible Background

02.27.2015 New Testament: Mark 7.24–26

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 7 on February 27, In the year of our Lord 2015

By Don Ruhl

A demon possessed the daughter of a Greek woman, but Jesus initially did not respond to her. However, she would not give up,

From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden. For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syro-phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter (Mark 7.24–26).

Why did the Lord ignore her initially? The text reveals that Jesus was sent to the house of Israel, but then she used brilliant reasoning to explain why He should help her, and it persuaded Him, leading Him to help her.

Here is the point: Do not give up. If you have a valid concern, keep asking the Lord about it. There might be a reason for His delay, but show Him that you believe in Him and that you know He has the capability of helping you.
