The Lord promised Abraham that his descendants would inherit the Land of Canaan. The Book of Joshua shows that the Lord kept His promise, showing the boundaries of each tribe, such as with Judah,
So this was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families… (Joshua 15.1–12).
The Lord did not give the children of Israel the Land of Canaan because He wanted to do something kind for them, no, He used them to bring into the world the Savior of the world. That is why the Lord did not give Israel land the size of the Roman Empire. He only needed the little space in Canaan to set up a nation that would have laws, showing what He wants and does not want, and where He could have prophets enlarge on another promise to Abraham that in him all the families of the Earth would be blessed.
