04.07.2015 Old Testament: Jdg 20.12–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Judges 20–21 on April 7, In the year of our Lord 2015
By Don Ruhl
Some men of the tribe of Benjamin committed a horrible act, but the rest of the tribe refused to submit to the nation to remove the evil,
Then the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What is this wickedness that has occurred among you? Now therefore, deliver up the men, the perverted men who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and remove the evil from Israel!” But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren, the children of Israel (Judges 20.12–13).
Benjamin would not deal with a problem within the family, as often happens among people, but the tribe of Benjamin belonged to the family of Israel, and Israel sought to do something about the evil.
Therefore, Israel had pure motives, for it was not as though they hated Benjamin, but Israel knew the Law, and they knew why the Lord removed the Canaanites from the land and brought Israel into the land. Benjamin had resorted to the sin of the Canaanites. Benjamin would have to suffer horribly for their mistake.
