We often decide that a person could only be what his environment makes him to be. Then when we hear of someone contrary to that belief, we do not want to accept it. Watch one of the disciples of Christ think in this very way when He first heard about Jesus,
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see” (John 1.46).
When Nathanael heard that the Messiah had come out of Nazareth, Nathanael refused to believe it. Nazareth had not produced anyone notable in history; how could it suddenly produce the Greatest One of history?
Philip’s answer showed the simple solution. Come and investigate.
If you come from a place not famous, just be all that God wants you to be, and you shall be whatever He wants you to be. Follow Jesus, for He understands the insignificance of forgotten towns.
