Not the kind of water she was thinking about

To read the Bible in a year, read John 4.1–30 on May 12, In the year of our Lord 2015

Jesus asked a woman at a well for a drink of water, but He quickly saw a way to minister to her and said that He had water that would give her life, everlasting life. She wanted the water of which He spoke,

The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here” (John 4.15–16).

Jesus told her to call her husband, because she was probably thinking that Jesus wanted to include him, but Jesus actually used it as a way to show the woman that He knew everything about her.

She would learn that the water He gives is not for the body, but for the spirit.
